Karim Boudiaf, the former Saudi Arabian Football Club (SFC) manager who was sacked by his club in August 2019, has been arrested on charges of fraud and corruption in the UAE.
The arrest comes after Boudiaf's lawyers appealed for bail but were unsuccessful in securing it. The case against him is still pending and it remains unclear how long it will take to resolve.
Boudiaf, who was known for his ruthless tactics during his time with SFC, was accused of embezzling millions of dirhams from the club's accounts while he served as its coach and manager.
In a statement issued by his lawyer, Khalid Al-Khaled, Boudiaf denied any wrongdoing and said that he had no intention of committing fraud or corruption.
He added that he was simply following orders and that he would not be held responsible for any actions taken by the club or any other parties involved in the scandal.
However, it is unclear what steps will be taken against Boudiaf once he is arrested. It is also unclear when he may be released if he is found guilty of the charges.
